It takes enormous amounts of gut and gumption to support and nurture something that’s led purely by passion and barely any profitable. What I’m talking about is independent music. In a country that’s mostly dominated by film music (Bollywood for most of the country and Tollywood, Kollywood, Sandalwood and Mollywood for the southern states), independent musicians have gone through hell and high water to get themselves noticed. Till almost a decade ago, it was considered practically foolish to pursue a career in music. This however, is not the scenario anymore. Young independent musicians are striving to make a mark and are doing so with complete focus and determination. Some of them have even left lucrative alternate careers to focus on their music. There have been many initiatives by larger organizations that have the financial and influential wherewithal to give the independent music scene the much deserved push, and one of these organizations is ‘Radio City’. The Radio City Freedom Awards are now in their fourth year since inception and have been one of the most awaited events of the year, purely because every musician who gets nominated for their work gets the limelight they deserve through these awards. Just like every year, RCFA 4.0 is an open competition that is not restricted to any specific language or region and is a pioneering effort to applaud independent artistes, who have pushed the boundaries to create unimagined musical breakthroughs in the Indian subcontinent and diaspora.
Radio City Freedom awards 4.0 is the most definitive platform to recognize, honour and celebrate the essence of independent music across genres and languages.
If you’re an independent musician who think their music deserves to be heard, Radio City Freedom Awards is what you should register for as they are inviting all independent artists to submit their entries from 4th February 2017 – 28th February 2017 on www.planetradiocity.com/rcfa. The shortlisted candidates would be open for public voting from 9th March–15th March 2017 culminating in to a grand finale in Mumbai on 22nd March 2017.
Last Year’s winners in the Best Metal Artist Categories were Bangalore Death/Thrash Metallers ‘Inner Sanctum’ in the Judge’s Choice Category and Vishakhapatnam based ‘Against Evil’ in the Popular Choice Category!
