STEEL PANTHER – Lower The Bar

  • Review by: Antonie Van Der Kooij

The sleaze glam rockers in Steel Panther are back with their fourth album ‘Lower The Bar.’ As always, sex, drugs and rock n’roll are the themes these four guys use in their catchy riffs and lyrics and if you aren’t familiar with Steel Panther, you might be in for a rough ride.

Right of the bat, they start with what you’d expect of them, with Goin’ In The Back Door’s sexy, catchy riffs and a singable chorus that make you believe that this is going to be on the set list on their next tour.

The first single of the album was a cover of Cheap Trick ”She’s Tight” featuring Robin Zander from Cheap Trick. The song itself is easy for the ears and is just a nice Steel Panther version but with the same Cheap Trick feeling.

The second single had a lot more controversy around it because the band first released it on the adult movie website PornHub. (Yeah I checked). ‘Poontang Boomerang’ is about finding true love on Tinder and never getting rid of her. This is one of the best songs on the album with Michael Starr’s voice screaming as we know he likes too and Satchel’s guitar solo’s that are out of this world. “That’s When You Came In” is one of the ballads on this album and it absolutely delivers with the sensitivity but still nasty lyrics you expect from Steel Panther.

Overall it’s a great album and fun to listen to over and over again. Steel Panther delivers yet again their fun lyrics and great music, and as long as they are around, hair metal will never go out of style. Get out your spandex, grab a bandana and rock out in the revival of 80s LA sleaze/glam.
